Our Story

Hey, there! We’re the Sweeneys. We’re a family of three in Fort Worth, TX that loves to travel, and we want to share our experience!

In 2015, Brooke and I met on a group trip to Panama, and you could say that kind of set the tone for our adventures together. We started dating long distance after the trip and a short 15 months later, we got married and settled into life in North Texas!

Life as newlyweds brings a lot of opportunity, and we knew that traveling was something we wanted to be front and center for our lives. So, we started to budget, plan, and dive into travel hacking to figure out how we could make it happen as much as possible.

Fast forward to 2018. I quit my job at Amazon the week I was set to be promoted to open an art house cinema in Fort Worth. What originally seemed like a decision that would cut into our traveling ability financially turned out to be a gift that provided time and flexibility for our travel planning (including having the same days off for the first time since getting married).

Then in 2019, two weeks before we were headed on a multi week trip exploring Australia and New Zealand, we found out Brooke was pregnant! So hang gliding in Queenstown was out, but it didn’t stop us from heading halfway across the world.

That trip couldn’t have come at a better time. Being away from the hustle of our routine let us set priorities for ourselves, and for what would soon be our family. One thing that we knew wouldn’t change: traveling.

We welcomed our baby girl, Isla Maeve, to the family in June 2020. Before obvious things changed the course of the year, we had an international trip booked during Brooke’s maternity leave. As it became more and more obvious that wasn’t going to happen, and as we became more and more antsy being quarantined with a screaming baby, we looked for another way to get out!

So, we turned to what we knew: it’s safer to be outside, we’re good at planning trips, and we had the time to leave. That led to us hitting the road for two weeks with our dog and 8 week old baby, visiting 12 National Parks and driving around 5200 miles.

Now the wheels were turning, in more ways than one. The moment we got home, we started dreaming about our next trips. Could Brooke work from the road? How would the baby do in the car at 6 months? 8 months? How can we go bigger and better?

Quickly we settled on our next route: 28 days, 17 National Parks, and a number of our favorite cities along the way. We packed up early March 2021 and started driving, and it didn’t take long for the questions to come.

“Wait, how long are you gone for?”
“How did y’all do this?
“How are you always traveling?”
“How did you do this with a 9 month old?”
“I just have so many questions.”

That’s what brought us here. We don’t think we’re some end all be all authority on traveling, but we know we have some experiences that we hope will help encourage you to give traveling a shot, whether that’s with a kid, your partner, your friends, or all by yourself.

Thanks for coming along for the journey. We’re excited to take our next adventure together.

Jimmy

Hey, I’m Jimmy!
I’m originally from Sarasota, FL, and I was really lucky to grow up in a family that felt like we were always on the road. My parents bought a pop up camper when I was in elementary school, and it seemed like we spent at least one weekend a month in a state park or at Disney’s Fort Wilderness camping.

In 2002, my parents took us to visit family in London and Germany, and I haven’t looked back since.

Brooke

Hi, I'm Brooke!

As long as I can remember, I've enjoyed traveling. Growing up with extended family in California and other parts of the country, I have a multitude of memories from beautiful places. One pivotal trip in my travel journey was visiting New York City as a teenager, which inspired me to dream bigger for my adventures. From there, I convinced my family to visit Paris, where I was captivated by the art and culture. Ever since, my love for experiencing new places has only grown - along with the bucket list!

Isla

Isla is silly, determined and social! She loves riding in the car with her pup and is always up for a hike on her dads back. She has been our adventurer, traveling with us since she was 8 weeks old. We love how excited she gets to see or try new things!

Zero

We adopted Zero in April 2019 from our neighborhood Humane Society, and he has grown up so much from the shy little pup we first brought home. He loves long hikes, chasing squirrels, and cleaning up his baby sister’s food. But most of all, he just wants to come along for the journey.
